Social and economic situation of the Municipal Formation
The Ust-Labinsk district is situated in the central part of the Krasnodar region on the right bank of the Kuban river. The Municipal Formation Ust-Labinsk District includes the administrative center Ust-Labinsk and 14 rural settlements combining 38 settlements. The population of the district is 109.6 thousand people, 41.3 thousand of which live in the city. The total area of the district is 151.1 square kilometers including 116.6 thousand hectares of farm fields. The climate of the district is moderately continental.
The principal activities of the Ust-Labinsk district are agriculture, food and processing industry and construction materials industry. There are non-metallic mineral resources in the district, which are the raw material for the production of construction materials (clay, sand and gravel); natural gas extraction is carried out as well.
The favorable geographical location in the center of the Krasnodar region – at the intersection of major highways of the regional and federal levels, at the confluence of two major waterways of the region – the Kuban and Laba rivers, proximity to the regional center, the international airport, the relative proximity to the port of Novorossiysk and the Black Sea coast, as well as presence of railway stations in the district create all the necessary prerequisites for the favorable conditions for cooperation with other districts and regions of Russia.
The company Basic Element of Oleg Deripaski and his Management Company AgroHolding Kuban are the biggest investors in the region. Agriculture and the development of the processing industry are the priorities of these companies in the region.
There are 15 industrial enterprises in the Ust-Labinsk district.
The main productive activity of the Ust-Labinsk district is agriculture: growing grains and legumes. The district is the largest producer of soybeans in the region. It also specializes in growing sugar beet and sunflower. The agricultural production of the Ust-Labinsk district is represented by 15 agricultural enterprises with large area of farm fields from 2.5 to 9.5 thousand hectares; besides them, there are 26 small and collective farms and 755 peasant farms.
During few years, the district is in the top ten among the districts of the region on the yield of grain and leguminous plants. The average annual agricultural production amount to 220 thousand tons of grains and legumes, 109 thousand tons of sugar beet, 20.8 tons of vegetables. The livestock industry is no less important for the economy of the region. There are one of the best indicators of livestock reproduction, growing and production. The Ladoga fur farm is the single in the region that for a long time and successfully engaged in mink growing. The horse breeding that is rare for today’s industry is preserved in the district.
The social sphere of the district includes the central district hospital with 608 beds, 3 medical and preventive health care institutions, 3 hospitals, 4 clinics, 4 dispensaries, 7 medical and obstetrical stations, 2 first aid facilities, 27 secondary schools, 4 major schools, 3 evening schools and 2 correction schools, 11 boarding school for orphaned children, 2 interschool training schools, 31 kindergartens, as well as 6 institutions of further education: the Ust-Labinsk house for children’s crafts, 2 a physical training club for children and young people, a young naturalists station, and 2 vocational training colleges.
There are such institutions of higher and secondary vocational education in the district as social and teacher training college, branches of the Armavir and Kropotkin juridical training colleges, the financial and economic IMSIT college, branches of the Kuban State University and the Armavir Linguistic University. There are 30 cultural institutions, 2 children’s art school and 1 children’s art school in Ust-Labinsk, adult and children’s city library and 18 their branches and historical museum In the Ust-Labinsk district.
The main tasks of the Administration of the Municipal Formation are the stabilization and development of the economic complex and consumer sphere. The inplementation of the investment potential of the Ust-Labinsk district should contribute to a large extent the solution of these items.
